International Lutheran Marriage Encounter (ILME) is affiliated with Worldwide Marriage Encounter, a movement dedicated to making couples' marriages better and lasting. Marriage Encounter is a truly worldwide movement. More than 6 million couples on all continents have attended a Marriage Encounter weekend, a weekend that is unique by its structure, working methods and results. While strengthening a couple's relationship with each other and with God is a key concept of our purpose, the term "family" is also an important foundation. Just as the church is united by worldwide bonds, encountered couples in all parts of the world are united as family in the belief that the world can be made better through strong marriages. Each encountered couple has learned tools to enhance their communication and daily commitment to one another, and we offer support to other encountered couples no matter in which part of the world they may live. We attended our Marriage Encounter Weekend in 1984 after 17 years of married life. We rediscovered our love for each other and came to appreciate how our love had grown deeper and in new ways we had not imagined on our wedding day. We grow and change daily as individuals and as a couple, and Marriage Encounter has provided us with the means to keep our love alive and evolving through the years. We want this web site to be a useful resource to those who have attended a weekend, we would like to encourage those who have not yet attended to also to take the step and go on a weekend.
